Farm Aid
Farm Aid began in 1985. Yesterday's concert focused on sustainability and the environment. From the Farm Aid press room:
"Farm Aid’s mission is to build a vibrant family farm-centered system of agriculture in America. Farm Aid artists and board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews host an annual concert to raise funds to support Farm Aid’s work with family farmers and to inspire people to choose family farm food. Since 1985, Farm Aid has raised more than $30 million to support programs that help farmers thrive, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement, take action to change the dominant system of industrial agriculture and promote food from family farms."
“Family farmers are the bedrock of this country. They are always looking for new answers to problems and finding creative solutions that work,” said Willie Nelson, president and founder of Farm Aid. “We need family farmers for our future and people can keep family farmers on the land with their good food choices.” Check out the 2008 Webcast!

Stormy Weather
Our well wishes and hope for safety go out to any ACS alumni living in Texas.
On this day in 1984, the worst hurricane of the year, the Category 4 Hurricane Diana, luckily looped and weakened as it struck the coast of North Carolina.

Smurfs!
The Smurfs was one of the most popular Saturday morning cartoons in 1984. The little blue forest people welcomed Baby Smurf to their forest that year and from the moment he arrived we worried that evil Gargamel would catch him and eat him!!!

And how many of you had your very own Smurf cassette player?!

MTV Video Music Awards
The MTV VMAs are tonight.
In 1984 this event was held at Radio City Music Hall with hosts Dan Akroyd and Bette Midler.
The Video of the Year was "You Might Think" by the Cars.
Herbie Hancock received 5 VMAs for his awesome video "Rockit."
Michael Jackson received a few for "Thriller."
Best New Artist went to the Eurythmics.
But the most talked about segment was Madonna's live performance of "Like a Virgin", which was shocking then, but seems rather innocuous nowadays, doesn't it?!
80's videos are the best.
What was the first music video to air on MTV? Click the Video of the Day below to find out!

Back to School!
It's that time of the year -- only now it is some of our kids walking the school halls, playing fall sports, joining school clubs, etc. Crazy!
Congrats to those of us who have kids who have graduated already, and good luck to those of us who are still guiding them along their pathway to success.
Looking forward to sharing our high school memories at the reunion!
