Mrs. Rudolph

Some of us have very fond memories of music with Mrs. Rudolph. Thanks to Greg B. for sending her obituary from last year so we can take a moment to remember this wonderful teacher.

Jean M. Rudolph

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Jean M. Rudolph, 81, of Bennington, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered the Kingdom of her Heavenly Father suddenly on Wednesday (Dec. 17, 2008). Her lifelong love and dedication to her family, her church, and her music teaching career at Alexander Central School were among her greatest joys.

She was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Marilla. A daughter of Clarence and Violet (Cullen) Dabb, she was a graduate of West Seneca High School, Fredonia State Teachers College and earned her school administrator's degree later in her teaching career. She touched the lives of thousands of Alexander students, and was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association, a past member of the Alexander United Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma and was named the WNY Elementary Teacher of the Year by Canisius College in 1986.

A longtime, active member of Salem United Church of Christ in Bennington Center, Mrs. Rudolph was involved in all facets of the church, including the Sunday school, Women's Guild, Couples Club, and was organist for many years. She was instrumentals in organizing he Bennington Ecumenical Vacation Bible School.

A love of nature, an avid collector, and a knowledgeable historian, she was a member of the Bennington Historical Society and was presently serving as the Bennington Town Historian. She also was a member of the Attica Hummel Club, the Toy Museum, the NY Farm Bureau, and was a former member of the Wyoming County Youth Board. She was named Bennington's Outstanding Senior Volunteer by Wyoming County Office of the Aging in 2008. Her dedication to the activities of her family was unwavering. "Aunt Jean" was known for her behind-the-scenes support of the Alexander Fireman's Band, picture taking, scrapbooking, establishing a "Heritage Barn" filled with family heirlooms and her famous chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by her dear husband of 58 years, Donald F. Rudolph; a daughter, Cindy (James) Dolan of Bennington; her grandchildren, Erin (Jason) Dressel, Dr. Lindsey (Zachary) Clark, and Kacy Dolan; and her dear great-grandchildren, Jake and Elise Dressel. Survivors also include a sisters, Lois (Charles) Myers of Florida, eight godchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Private burial service will be held. Family, friends and former students are invited to a Celebration of Her Life at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at Salem United Church of Christ.
